Before the sessions take place, referral forms are to be completed by the school and an observation of the child in the setting, is completed by the therapist , The therapist will also meet with the parent / carer to discuss the play therapy process and share information about the child. The child will meet the therapist to begin building a warm and positive relationship and to be to introduced to the toys and the playroom.
To ensure consistency, which is an important factor in the therapeutic process, the sessions will take place at the same time each week. During the school day the therapist can see 3-4 pupils per day for a minimum of 12 weeks. There will be positive relationships created with parents/ carers throughout the course of therapy, parent and teacher review meetings and a final report at the end of play therapy to share progress in individuals and their sessions.
The therapist will provide all of the equipment that is needed for the sessions. The therapist will need a room to set up as the playroom. it is essential that this is a confidential and quiet space which will be available for each session, to ensure the correct conditions are provided for play therapy.
